Summary of Annual Training Requirements
New Requirements Effective 5/1/2024 (HB102S1)
The Arrest Control and De-escalation courses are required annually, effective 5/1/24. There is no minimum hour requirement, and the agency must ensure that the training is valid and meets the requirements.
Crisis Intervention, Special Needs, and sexual assault investigations are required every three years beginning 7/1/2024. The first time this requirement is due is 6/30/27. There is no minimum hour requirement, and it is the agency’s responsibility to ensure that training is valid and meets the requirements.
Training across any category counts towards that year’s 40-hour requirement in the year it was completed.
POST Council will continue to publish guidance on the scope of each category, but the agency will be responsible for ensuring compliance.
Agencies still report all training in the Acadis portal and specify the training categories for which proper credit is to be given. This allows the agency and the officer to view progress on the requirements.
POST will notify officers and agencies regarding those who have not met the annual or tri-annual training requirement.
