Advanced Officer
Description:
The Advanced Officer course is the second step in the POST Career Development Program.
The Advanced Officer certificate requires the officer to achieve the physical fitness standards approved by the POST council for Law Enforcement Officer certification. These are the same standards required for graduation from the LEO academy. The physical fitness assessment includes: vertical jump, one minute sit up, max push-ups, and 1.5 mile run. This physical fitness assessment will require some physical exertion on the part of the applicant and thus some prior preparation is strongly recommended. For additional information on the fitness standards click here.
The course required PT test will be given at the end of the first day of training. Please bring appropriate PT gear to change in to prior to the test.
Requirements:
- Three years experience as a full time peace officer as defined by Title 53, Chapter 13-103.
- Completed Advanced Officer application signed by the officer’s supervisor.
- The Medical Release must be submitted prior to the first day of the course. Click here for the Advanced Officer Medical Release Form.
Only department Training Coordinators will be able to register students through the POST Portal. No individual registrations are allowed.
This course is limited to 35 students with a minimum of 25 registered students two weeks prior to class start date.

No shorts, open toe shoes, sweats, tank tops, or t-shirts are permitted. It is also recommended that the applicant bring comfortable clothing and running shoes for the fitness test day one.
