Handgun Instructor Re-Certification

Description:

The course will be a half-day, four hours of training for previously trained and certified firearms instructors. A prerequisite will be the week-long handgun instructor course. To be recertified, instructors shall pass the POST day qualification at 90% (225/250).

This course will also cover any recent changes to the POST firearms curriculum and answer questions about the POST firearms program.

 Prerequisites:

Previous successful completion of the week-long handgun instructor course.

Student Notes:

A one-week cancellation is required. If you are registered and fail to cancel at least one week (7 days) before the class, you will not be considered for this training for a period of one year.  This is to give consideration to those who are on a waiting list and to fill the class.

This course is limited to 25 students, with a minimum of 16 to hold the course.

A confirmation letter listing the equipment required for the course will be sent to the department training officer.

Officers attending must have the following:

  • Handgun, duty belt, etc.
  • Flashlight
  • Hat
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Ballistic vest
  • 200 – 400 rounds of handgun ammunition
  • Water, sunscreen, and clothing appropriate for the weather.

Optional Items:

  • Knee pads
  • Rain gear
  • Sunglasses and other items

Dress code for attending POST classes is a neat, clean, and professional appearance. Slacks, shirts with collars, and/or department uniform can be worn. (not required on the ranges) No shorts, open-toed shoes, sweats, tank tops, or t-shirts are permitted.

Registration:

To apply for the course, candidates should have an Agency Administrator or Training Coordinator register them for the training through the POST Acadis Portal*.
